CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

This course, one in a series of seminars presented by the Institute for Pediatric Medical Education, a non-profit organization, and the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine  is designed primarily for pediatric and general pathologists, but will be of interest to forensic pathologists/medical examiners, pediatricians, emergency room personnel, pediatric nurses, social workers, attorneys and law enforcement officials. 

Objectives: At the end of the four day conference you will be able to

1. Identify the physical features of head and neck trauma in the pediatric population.

2. Analyze the mechanisms and features of pediatric toxicology cases.

3. Differentiate between natural causes of death such as atraumatic heart deaths and metabolic disorders, those cause by accident, and those caused by abuse, including blunt force trauma, burns, and asphyxias.

4. Identify the presentation of pediatric sexual assault victims.

5. List the characteristics and statistics of adolescent deaths and pediatric suicides.

The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians and takes responsibility for the content, quality and scientific integrity of this CME activity.


Credit Designation. The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine designates this activity for a maximum of 25 hours in category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

The conference will be held at the Coronado Springs Hotel and Resort at WaltDisneyWorld in Orlando, Florida. Room reservations for the Resort will be coordinated by their housing office. Housing information will be sent to conference participants as applications are received.
